Argumentative Introduction

Some say that boys and girls are raised differently for a reason. Girls are given dolls to play with to practice the expressive and care giving roles they will serve as women. Boys are given toy trucks and army men to play with to practice the instrumental role they will serve as men. Functionalists state that men and women play different but complementary roles. If boys and girls were raised androgynous, then problems concerning gender equality on a college campus would not exist.
